Consultation is available for those interested in empowering their own aging journey or for those wanting to enrich the experience of caring for aging loved ones. Consultation can be one time or ongoing. I invite you to a consultation in the comfort of your home or in the home of an aging loved one.
INDIVIDUAL CONSULTATION
Your Own Aging Journey
For the person interested in empowering his or her own aging journey, we begin with you. Together we explore ways to increase and maintain your personal health, or transform a health crisis into an opportunity for change. We identify and detail your interests and passions. We discuss ways to share the culmination of your wisdom and experience with family, friends, colleagues, or a larger audience. We delve into your concerns about aging. We create channels for meaningful engagement to keep you comfortable, spirited, and happy. We formulate a plan, if you desire, to prepare for the end of your life. The topics are endless and unique to you, but the objective is to discover your potential, your ability, to sustain a dynamic and full life in body, mind, and spirit.
Caring For a Loved One
For persons wanting to enrich the experience of caring for an aging loved one, or loved ones, we begin with you and the challenges you face. Together we develop ways to maintain your own physical and mental health. We clarify your role and responsibilities as a care provider. We discuss concerns about your role as a care provider, for example, job, availability, aptitude, and other responsibilities. We list medical, social, psychological, cultural, and other resources that you can call upon for assistance, advice, or respite. Most importantly, we explore the transformative aspects of your role, the shared beauty and mutual growth that take place when you reveal ideas and feelings, spend time with a loved one, and embrace one another’s humanity and mortality.
FAMILY CONSULTATION
Any member of the family, including adult children, spouses, and grandchildren, can initiate a family consultation. Whether consultation is one time or ongoing, you will be empowered with a greater understanding of your next steps on the journey of caring for an aging loved one. I invite you to a consultation in the comfort of your home or in the home of a family member.
Through facilitated family meetings, we work out a plan, tailored to your particular family, focused on the care of an aging loved one, or loved ones. We identify each family member’s concerns and ideas, list priorities, and make informed decisions concerning the aging person’s quality of life, medical options, professional recommendations, living space, safety, medications, end of life wishes, and so forth. We discover possibilities for increasing communication, clarifying roles, deepening connections, and encouraging intergenerational involvement. Family members may come to see their time spent with an aging family member as a privilege rather than as a hardship or obligation. A family member may seek the opportunity to extend and deepen his or her relationship with a loved one, to receive unexpected gifts of lifelong wisdom and stories.
